How Do NFL Draft Odds Work?

Draft odds focus on things like:

  • Overall Pick: Betting on who goes #1 overall.

Example: Let’s say Caleb Williams is the favorite at -200 odds to be the #1 pick. If you bet $100 on him and he does go first, you’d win $50 (plus your initial $100 wager back).

  • Position Battles: Which quarterback, running back, etc., will be drafted first at their position.

Example:  Imagine the top Quarterback(QB) prospects are Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Quinn Ewers. You might see odds like this:

Caleb Williams to be first QB drafted: -180

Drake Maye to be first QB drafted: +250

Quinn Ewers to be first QB drafted: +500

  • Over/Under: Betting on a player’s draft position

Example: Let’s say the over/under for Quentin Johnston’s draft position is set at 9.5.

OVER 9.5: -120

UNDER 9.5: +110

If you bet on the UNDER and he’s drafted at pick 9 or earlier, you win!

  • Live Draft Betting: Odds shift IN REAL TIME as the draft unfolds.

Wagering on the 2024 NFL Draft: Betting Options

  • Moneyline (Straight-Up): The classic “who will be picked.” Example:
    • Caleb Williams -200 (favorite)
    • Drake Maye +350 (underdog)
  • Draft Props: Fun bets on specific events:
    • First offensive lineman drafted: This could be a bet between specific players (e.g., Peter Skoronski vs. Paris Johnson Jr.) or a broader question (e.g., Will the first offensive lineman be drafted in the top 10 picks?)
    • Will a trade happen in the top 5 picks: Teams can “trade” their draft picks with each other.  This question asks if there will be a trade involving one of the top 5 picks (the very first picks of the draft).  These picks are super valuable because they give teams a chance to grab the best young players coming out of college.
    • How many SEC players in the first round: SEC stands for the Southeastern Conference, a group of 14 universities in the southern and eastern United States. It’s known for its strong college football programs.

This is a wager on the number of college football players from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) who will be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft.  The first round is considered the most prestigious, with teams picking the players they believe have the most potential to be stars in the NFL.

  • Totals (Over/Under): Betting on a player’s draft position.

Teams take turns “picking” players they want from a pool of college football stars.  These picks are numbered, with the first pick being the most valuable.

  • Live Draft Betting: Odds shift IN REAL TIME as the draft unfolds. The odds for different bets change constantly throughout the draft. Here are some examples:
  • A player’s draft position: Let’s say a running back’s draft position was initially Over/Under 12.5 before the draft. If several running backs are drafted early, the odds for him going Over 12.5 might increase because there are fewer running backs left.
  • Will a trade happen: If a team with a high pick starts talking trade rumors with other teams, the odds of a trade happening might suddenly go up.
  • Next team to draft a Quarteback: If multiple teams need a quarterback, the odds for a specific team being the next one to draft a QB might shift based on who picks before them.
  • Futures: These go beyond the draft. Bet on which team a player lands on, team win totals for the upcoming season, etc. “Futures” bets let you extend the fun and make predictions about the entire upcoming NFL season! These bets aren’t about what happens during the draft itself, but rather what will happen throughout the regular season and beyond.

Here are a few examples of Futures bets you might find:

  • Which team will [player’s name] play for: Let’s say Bryce Young, a quarterback, is projected to be a high draft pick. You could bet on which specific team you think will draft him.
  • Team Win Totals: Sportsbooks will set a number for how many games each NFL team is expected to win in the upcoming season. You can bet on whether a team will win Over or Under that number.
  • Super Bowl Champion: This is a classic futures bet! You can pick which team you think will win the Super Bowl at the end of the season.
  • Individual Player Awards: Some sportsbooks might offer odds on players winning awards like Most Valuable Player (MVP) or Offensive Rookie of the Year.
